Turn Your Next Home Preview into an Easy Blog Post

Looking for a topic for your next blog post? Here’s a simple idea that you can use again and again. As an agent, you’re probably out previewing new listings all the time. Whether you’re prepping for a weekend tour with a new buyer, or just keeping track of new inventory in your market area, previewing listings is a major part of any agent’s weekly schedule. So why not make it a part of your blog? Kill two birds with one stone and write about some of the homes you visit.

Whenever you’re out previewing listings, keep your eye out for one that has something special. Maybe it’s a particularly good deal, or a lot that’s zoned for a potential subdivide that could make for a good investment. Maybe it’s a unique feature that catches your eye, like a brand new ADU or an unusually huge back yard with a pool. Snap a few pictures and write a couple of paragraphs describing the details. Throw in a map, maybe some zoning rules, or other pertinent info, and offer your professional opinion on what makes that listing special. It really doesn’t take much. Short and sweet is just fine. The point is to offer your point of view as a real estate expert.

Clients, whether they’re buying or selling, are looking for informed, competent agents to represent them. They can get basic listing details from any of a number of websites. What really makes an agent valuable is the kind of insider knowledge that only comes from experience and research. Your knowledge and opinions translate into the kind of advice and guidance that clients need. Demonstrating that knowledge with blog posts will help solidify your relationships with current contacts, via your e-mails, social media posts, and newsletters, and help you capture new leads by giving search engines more content with your name on it.

If you’re reading this and thinking it sounds like extra work, guess what- it’s not. You’re probably already writing these posts. Got an out-of-town client that asked you to preview some homes? Did you e-mail them some pics and feedback after you went out to look? Take that e-mail, edit it a bit, and BAM! There’s your blog post.

Depending on the rules of your local MLS, you may need to get permission from agents before posting about their listings. That shouldn’t be any big deal, provided that you stick to more-or-less positive commentary. It’s not likely that anybody will object to some good, free press. Even if permission isn’t required, it’s probably best to keep any criticism constructive. Nobody likes a hater.

The best part about this topic concept is that you can do it over and over again. Make it a recurring element like a “Pick of the Week.” You’re out there previewing listings anyway, so you may as well make the most of them.
